About Raising Chickens
Raising Chickens is a small reference site for people keeping a backyard flock and trying to make good decisions without reading twenty tabs first. We are not a lifestyle blog and not a forum. The goal is simple: answer the question, give you a useful tool when one exists, and cite a trustworthy source when the topic involves health, safety, or toxicity.
What this site is
- Concise guides written for someone with a flock of 2–30 birds.
- Calculators and checkers for sizing coops, estimating feed, and screening plants.
- Monthly and seasonal checklists you can print and use.
- Cautious, source-backed answers on chicken health and toxic-plant questions.
What this site is not
- A veterinary service. If a bird is seriously sick, contact a poultry vet.
- A commercial-poultry resource. Our recommendations are scaled to backyard flocks.
- An affiliate-link farm. When we link to a product, we say why and disclose any affiliate relationship.
How we work
Every page lists the date it was last reviewed and the sources used. We lean on university extension services, veterinary schools, and recognized poultry organizations before personal blogs or social-media threads. Our editorial guidelines explain how we research, write, and review pages.
